Following the overwhelming popularity of the initial Reggae Chartbusters collection, Trojan were eager to repeat its success, releasing the second set as soon as the company had amassed enough recordings worthy of inclusion. Issued at the tail end of 1970, the LP contained a selection equally as strong as the preceding volume, with major works by Bob & Marcia, Nicky Thomas, the Maytals and Jimmy Cliff among its highlights.
The tracklisting is enhanced by significant sides by the Melodians, the Pioneers and up-and-coming Kingston-based trio, Bob Marley & the Wailers.
Never previously made available on CD, each volume faithfully retains the style of their respective period, with booklets jam-packed with relevant ephemera and fascinating commentaries, written by original Trojan employee, Rob Bell, recalling the label's early history and the recordings that established it as the world's greatest reggae label.
