Like a stake into the heart of The Jam, Weller reinvents himself in the very first release by The Style Council now available on CD. This 35 minute mini album / EP is a compilation of tracks from the band's first three UK single releases as well as The club mix of ‘Long Hot Summer’ and the original Paul Weller vocal version of ‘The Paris Match.’
Introducing The Style Council has the full original version of ‘Money-Go-Round’ and an earlier version of ‘Headstart For Happiness’ wrapped with a raw immediacy. In the original ‘The Paris Match’ Paul sings a verse in French unheard on the more polished Tracy Thorn version on Cafe Bleu.
First single ‘Speak Like A Child’ is also another stand out track here. On this EP the classic Style Council line up came together including vocalist Dee C Lee. “I wanted the Council to be like Steampacket, when they had Rod The Mod (Stewart) and Julie Driscoll on joint vocals, and I wanted a dual lead vocal like that.
Dee came and sang on our second single, Money Go Round, and it clicked, she sounded different to all the other session singers we’d met,” says Weller.
It's the essence and spirit on this EP that captures all the promise of The Style Council and their future success.
