Razorlight's 'Wire To Wire' provided a welcome first taste of the band's direction on third album, Slipway Fires. As moody and moving a love song as any out there, the track proved something of a departure thanks to the retro feel of its piano-driven tune and the epic swell of a choir on backing vocals.
Razorlight signalled their return to the music scene in style, pulling out all the stops for 'Wire To Wire' by signing up Oscar-nominated movie director Stephen Frears to make its video. Johnny Borrell's vision for the promo stemmed from a scene in the novel Three Men In A Boat where the characters float along the Thames with only matches to light their way.
As a result, Frears, who was behind classic movies like The Queen and Dirty Pretty Things, shot the band standing in darkness, lit only by the flames of single matches. Frears himself said of the collaboration, "I daren't tell my kids. They (Razorlight) are rather groovy, aren't they?"
