Urban, angular and fiercely intellectual, Finisterre sees Saint Etienne explore the city landscape, in all its decay, dysfunction and creative spirit, and includes the uptempo 'Shower Scene', futuristic 'Action' and 'Soft Like Me', featuring rapper, Wildflower.
This re-issued Deluxe version includes two CDs - the original UK album and an extra disc of session tracks and B-sides, plus extensive liner notes by Jude Rogers.
Finisterre revives the poetic spoken interludes last heard on So Tough, narrated by actor Michael Jayston, and is one of Saint Etienne's most diverse, innovative and quirky albums, driving its way through hip hop, sonic house, ambient pop, electroclash and folk, with acoustic guitars and strings, and examining society's evils in the lyrics.
Sarah Cracknell says: "I think it's probably lyrically our most spiky record to date. Kind of pointing out people's greed and things like that."
The album accompanies Saint Etienne's film of the same name, a 'psycho-geographical' drama that documents the journey from the suburbs, before the commuter rush, into London and captures all of the mesmerising and grimy sights, the DNA of a city that is both inspiring and engulfing.
