In 2005, Beck introduced his sixth major-label album, his first since 2002, seeing the return of previous studio collaborators - Tony Hoffer (Midnite Vultures) and the Dust Brothers (Midnite Vultures, Odelay).
Guero undoubtedly contains elements of the singer/songwriter's previous release, the track "Broken Drum" hints at melancholy echoes from the album Sea Change. However, as a whole, Guero is chiefly on a swift advance forward, particularly with intensified guitar distortion and crunchy percussion that play off the core piano and acoustic guitar. The production is seemingly richer, more ambitious and cleverly arranged, conglomerating the various styles that Beck has picked up on his creative journey.
