'Mary' is the first single to showcase the Scissors Sister's more heartfelt and serious side. This brooding ballad was penned by Jake Shears in honour of his best friend Mary Hanlon and will engulf you in its sentiment.

With its sentimental tone and heartfelt lyrics it was always going to be a favourite of writer Jake Shears and fans alike. And in 2006 the song developed greater resonance with Shears and the rest of the Scissor Sisters when it was announced that Shears' best friend Mary Hanlon, who the song is dedicated to, was found dead due to a brain aneurysm. The tragic death accrued when the Scissor Sisters were finishing off the recording of their second album Tah Dah . The band are said to be devastated by her tragic death and to this day still dedicated the song to her.
