The Fratellis' second album, Here We Stand, was produced by the band themselves and was released in June 2008, peaking at number five in the UK Album Charts. With the addition of a piano to complement the band's heavy guitar riffs of the first album, Here We Stand marked a slight change in direction - taking the band from their early pop-punk sound to something more in tune with stadium rock. It spawned the singles 'Mistress Mabel', 'Look Out Sunshine', and a 'A Heady Tale'.

The Fratellis' Here We Stand showcases the band's mix of glam rock foot stompers and stadium rock together with the introduction of a well-positioned piano chord or two. It proved to be a step away from Costello Music, as the band transformed from the last gang in town, playing rousing punk-pop anthems, into more of a posturing rock band, in the vein of Oasis or the Foo Fighters - even incorporating old fashioned stadium guitar solos into the mix (as on 'Lupe Brown').

"I was so determined to write an album I'd be happy playing for the next few years and that's why I am so proud of this', said Jon. And, on this occasion, the band even chose to produce the album themselves: "We dumped the big producer, dumped the expensive studio, and did it on our own."
