This 2CD set is a must have compilation for all fans of the man who more than deserved his title of ‘The Crown Prince Of Reggae’.
While Bob Marley has been widely hailed as the man who made Jamaican music a truly outernational, to hardcore fans, the true King of Reggae was Dennis Emanuel Brown. The singer, who began his recording career in the early Seventies, went on to work with almost every Kingston producer of note, notching up an incredible run of hit singles and albums in the process. In 1979, he finally achieved international recognition when his reworked version of ‘Money In My Pocket’ became a major hit throughout Europe. Two further UK chart-entries, ‘Love Has Found Its Way’ and ‘Halfway Up Halfway Down’, followed, and when Bob Marley passed away in 1981, he became arguably the most popular Reggae artist in the world.
Drawing on Trojan, Creole and RAS, ‘Money In My Pocket’ is the most extensive collection of Dennis¹ work ever to see issue on Trojan, with all 40 tracks major Reggae hits during the Seventies and Eighties. Among these are his three UK chart entries, plus ‘A True¹, the 1978 hit version of which makes its CD debut here.
