With lazy plaudits instantly comparing her to legendary divas of soul past, it has taken the Grammy award winning album Rockferry to set Duffy's talent in its own orbit. Collaborating with celebrated producer and ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, Duffy weaves her soaring heartfelt vocals over gloriously rich orchestration: Torch songs, ballads, and vivid studio sound abound. If Duffy eschews contemporary beats for classic arrangements it is in her search for something deeper than ephemeral pop: Time and time again she comes up trumps.
