Preemptive Strike is a retrospective compilation album of DJ Shadow's singles released on the UK record label Mo'Wax between 1991-1998. Preemptive Strike was also released in Japan under the Toy's Factory label and limited to only 2000 copies worldwide.
Although parts 1 and 4 appeared on his Entroducing... album, the 4-part "What Does Your Soul Look Like?" shows up here in its haunting entirety. "In/Flux" another colossal, 12 minute track. Even through various beat arrangements, it finds coherence amidst the abstract samples. "Hindsight," also from 1993, is established via a minimal approach. It boasts a powerful beat, but the ascetic layers of surrounding elements help the track maintain its subdued nature, whereas the new song on the album - "High Noon" demonstrates a much more aggressive tone.
