About this product

Paul Weller's Studio 150, his seventh solo studio album was named after the studio in Amsterdam in which it was recorded. A collection of cover versions, this limited edition release includes live versions of the tracks recorded at Berlin's RBB Sendesaal gig and an updated version of The Beatles classic 'Come Together', a song he originally recorded in 1995 with Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney for homeless charity, HELP.

Albums comprising nought but covers rarely inspire and evoke such wide acclaim as Studio 150 did when it was released. Following the experimental Illuminations of 2002, this album pays homage to the great inspirations behind Paul's writing over the last 30 years. Speaking about his inspirations, Paul commented, "To me, it all comes from the same source. I could listen to Debussy one minute, then some avant-garde jazz album, then Curtis Mayfield the next. It all comes from the same source" and it is evident in this album that his idols reach far and wide.

From his lively reworking of Gil-Scott Heron's 'The Bottle' and thoughtful translation of Sister Sledge's 'Thinking of You' to his bouncy adaptation of 'Close To You' made famous by The Carpenters, The Modfather is never shy of tackling his tunes head on and it pays off. Unlike many covers albums, this doesn't hang off the shirt tails of its prestigious composers, rather with Paul's energy and soul, it is successful entirely in its own right.
