'The Spell' found Alphabeat serving up their fourth UK single, another chunk of the classy effervescent pop that launched them into the big time. Taken from their Spring 2010 album, The Beat Is..., the track racked up a Top 20 hit in the UK, as well as topping the charts in the band's native Denmark. This version contains both the single's pop-packed original edit and the dancier beats of the Digital Dog Remix.

A massive-sounding floor-filler of the retro kind, 'The Spell' was a masterstroke of an Alphabeat comeback, delivering the upbeat feel of their 2008 debut, but sounding different enough to keep everyone interested. And while this time round the feel-good vibe still references Madonna, it tips more than a wink to early '90s sounds too.

Featuring a sample of Danish dance act Cut 'N' Move's 1991 single 'Get Serious', the track owes its main inspiration to Black Box's seminal 1990 Italian house smash, 'I Don't Know Anybody Else'. As Anders SG puts it, 'It's a fully-fledged dance record.'
