From the Source

'Mistress Mabel' became the Fratellis' fifth hit single in the UK, the first to come from their second album, Here We Stand. With B-sides made up of old demos of 'Boy Done Good', 'Ella's In The Band', and the never-before-heard 'When All the Lights Go Out'.

'Mistress Mabel' continued a long line of rock songs about women with names that could make for a good sing-song chorus - 'Peggy Sue', The Kaiser Chief's 'Ruby', 'Maggie May', even 'Layla' by Oasis. A taster of things to come, this combined the band's swaggering pub rock/glam swagger from the first album, with the welcomed inclusion of stomping piano hooks. Jon said of the track, "I started with the little keyboard synth part that runs all the way through it, which is weird as it's the only song I have written that came from a musical idea. Usually I sit writing by strumming the guitar rather than building from a little idea."
