Poking a defiant two fingers up to their detractors, 'Broken, Beat and Scarred' is Metallica's unrepentant, hard rocking battle-cry. The sixth single to be unleashed from the widely- acclaimed Death Magnetic album, this UK version serves it up in all its furious live glory.
A grim repudiation of ever quitting in the face of adversity, 'Broken, Beat and Scarred' finds Metallica lyricist James Hetfield plumbing the musings of German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche for inspiration. Making up the song's furious refrain is Nietzsche's famous line, 'That which does not kill us makes us stronger' or, as James puts it, 'What don't kill ya makes ya more strong.'
