About this product

Marilyn Manson's The Golden Age of Grotesque was both a critical and commercial success on its release in 2003. It tapped into the '30s Swing and Mel Gordon's academic book, Voluptuous Panic: The Erotic World of Weimar Berlin.

Similar to Alice Cooper's 1975 Welcome to my Nightmare, Marilyn Manson's The Golden Age of Grotesque moves away from an industrial soundscape to something dark, moody and (to a degree) mainstream. The album's storyline follows the evolution of Manson himself as 'art into a product'. Marilyn Manson said, "I write and create art and make statements for people that I know, and I spend most of my life onstage or in front of a camera saying them to strangers, so it's a little confusing. I've decided, rather, to separate myself from the world and live in a fantasy world - I already do."
