Released in 1996, Boyzone's sophomore album, A Different Beat repeated both the winning formula and the success of its predecessor Said And Done. Showcasing the band's trademark blend of '70s covers and self-penned tunes, it racked up triple-platinum sales, topped the album charts, and provided Boyzone's first UK Number One single in the form of the Bee Gees' weepie, 'Words'.
Revealing both the band's developing songwriting talents and the influence of US outfits like N'Sync and The Backstreet Boys, A Different Beat finds Boyzone experimenting with a more diverse and mature sound. Containing the Top Two singles, the tribal-sounding 'A Different Beat' and the melodic 'Isn't It A Wonder', it also boasts the beautiful 'Words', and Stephen Gately's soaring lead vocals on the band's take on the Michael Jackson classic, 'Ben'.
