Sharleen has a lovely voice, and many of the songs are perfect for her. However some songs feel they just don't reach their full potential, perhaps they should have tried some more radical changes to them to fit Sharleen's style. Anyway, lot's of good stuff, in an impressive looking tin package.

When I heard the news regarding Songbook, I thought, "An album of movie soundtracks? In a Lady Gaga kinda decade? Wow, what a ballsy chick!" Well, I really don't share Sharleen's love of movie soundtracks but I bought the cd anyway...well, because....that's what fans do.

I can't tell you how happy I am that Ms. Spiteri has the mondo-sized #$%^s that she does!:) The album is killer! The music is lush and as always, Sharleen's voice is exquisite. HOWEVER, what stole my heart is the range of songs that she choose and how she presents them. This is no ordinary cover album! She puts her own spin and personality into each and every selection. She's coy and tongue-in-cheek with, "Pretty Woman" and "What's New Pussycat?". Something for the girls.:) "If I Can't Have You" is better than the original (by far) and "Many Rivers To Cross" is just beautiful! "God Bless The Child", "This One's From The Heart" and "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" all make me want to pour myself a dry martini (shaken, not stirred) and hang out in a piano bar. But my favorite track is "Sound of Silence". I've always loved that song and once wrote the lyrics in my journal in a moment of teenage angst. Sharleen Spiteri's rendition made me remember that moment in vivid detail. I swear, if I didn't mind poverty, I'd quit my job and follow her tour around the country shouting, "More, MORE!"

Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't an annoying pop album that you shove into the car cd player and bebop on down the road. No, this is a grown-up's album, best enjoyed on surround-sound, sipping a glass of wine with candle-light (lover/bubble-bath optional). Any less of an atmosphere will rob "Movie Songbook" of it's greatest effect! Buy this album...or,trust me...one day you'll think, "This is a PERFECT moment for Songbook! Why didn't I buy it when I had the chance?" :)

Great for relaxing, doing housework to, sing along to, dancing to. Great to hear Sharleen doing these covers with her originality and it gives thm a new lease of life. Everybody will at least know a couple if not all of the songs to sing along to!!! There is nothing negative to say.

The packaging and overall feel off the product is well produced. However Sharleen Spiteri deserves so much more than this album. Apart from a couple of tracks this is like karoke gone bad. I normally love all aspects of Sharleen's voice and vocals but I actually found myself cringing as I was listening to this album. Can't wait til Sharleen sings her own material where you can actually hear the soul in her voice.

Being a great fan of Sharleen and Texas, I bought the deluxe addition of The Movie Songbook. A superb package to purchase. Had mine now for 3 weeks and never stopped listening to it. All the great movie cover songs performed outstandingly, and with Sharleens' unique vocals, it's a great CD either as a gift or for own self gratification!

This is an absolutely brilliant CD of movie song cover versions by sharleen,great for listening to in the car and will take you back in time to all different era's.she's done really well to make these songs sound like something new by making them her own version of timeless classics.

Being a huge Texas fan and having loved Melody Sharleens' first solo album I was looking forward to this release. However I am left feeling rather disappointed. The saving grace is that I purchased the special edition with extras and demos which has some great versions of tracks such as Xanadu and 110th street. I would have prefered a bit more originality similar to that found on the 'Radio 1 live lounge'.

However that said Sharleens' voice continues to hit the mark and is a reason to by this CD.

This album is a big change for Sharleen. She has made it her own and it doesn't sound karaoke. It has up beat and slow tracks for all moods.

I enjoy listening to it with my son who loves it also.

Great to have in the background but better to listen to seriously. The extras disc has some wonderful vocals. Some familiar songs but Sharleen makes you listen to the words. Then you realise you weren't so familiar with the songs after all.

A great acheivement by one of our finest musicians. Texas queen Sharleen's love of films drove this album in her own style making it a great listener without ruining the originals. There must be at least one or two tracks that anyone would like. A real treat to listen to time and time again - just as I have - and the demos are great too - the beginnings of the journey. The general album great - demos and extras could of done with some kind of 'fact' sheet or booklet, also I'm sure someone could of supplied Sharleen with a marker that wasnt black considering the cover is black, signature is barely noticable.

The overall review is a 4 star and not because the production content which has an outstanding rate with Phil Ramone as head of production and the wonderful voice of Sharleen.
It's been a great idea to repackage in Deluxe Limited Edition with demos and extras which both are unmissable however the credit leaflet has a lack of good pictures, lack of lyrics and lack of credits. If you decide nowadays to buy a physical CD you are expecting not just the music, you are expecting a good credit leaflet and The Movie Song Book is not following the same artistry that Melody had.
