Festival 2005 is a DVD video album that has been shot during the The Cure's own headlining shows at 9 European music festivals during one summer. It features an interesting mix of footage and camera angles taken by a mixed bunch of fans, road crew and 'on the night big screen cameras'. With track highlights including 'Fascination Street', 'Never Enough' and 'Push', Festival 2005 is a collector's visual treat.
The first physical product to be released by the band since long term ex-guitarist Porl Thompson returned to the fold, Festival 2005 provides exciting visual imagery to go with the fantastic soundscapes of this legendary band. The Cure have always been rated as a fantastic live act and Robert Smith takes performing very seriously - in fact it has been reported he has shed tears offstage due to the intensity of the persona he portrays onstage.
Relatively static as performers go, Smith has commented on how self-conscious he feels. The use of the makeup he always wears has actually been attributed to this inherent shyness and the fact that he constantly gazes down at the floor is testament to this perceived lack of 'showmanship'. Festival 2005 gives us a renaissance of a tour using footage from 9 different concerts to select some definitive live versions of Cure classics.
