Rufus Wainwright's elaborate tribute concert Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall recreates Judy Garland's famed 1961 concert at the same venue.
Recorded live at Carnegie Hall this 27 track 2-CD version comes with the encore, 'Get Happy' as a bonus track.
Long a fan of showbiz megastar Judy Garland, Rufus "started listening to the Carnegie Hall album in the weeks and months after September 11, craving some cheap showbiz cheer, but wound up discovering something deeper".
Often considered "the greatest night in show business history", this concert album so inspired Rufus he took the idea of restaging it to New York-based theatrical producer Jared Geller.
Finally, years later, we find Rufus backed by a 36-piece orchestra conducted by Stephen Oremus, performing Judy's vintage set, song by song.
Featuring traditional Broadway-style interpretations of songbook classics by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Harold Arlen among others, this is truly fascinating as spectacle and as home listening pleasure.
In addition to this audio recording, Rufus has released the tribute concert on DVD (as filmed at the London Palladium) as Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! Does Judy! Judy! Judy!: Live from the London Palladium.
