THE STORY SO FAR

Welcome to Universal Music, the source of the world's greatest music. For us, music is the most important thing in the world. We play it, we work with it, we live it and breathe it, and we can't imagine a world without it. Universal Music is uniquely privileged in its position as the world's leading music business to be able to share that passion with you, and it's a pleasure to be able to do so, right here, right now.

Universal Music has been involved making music since 1898. Since then, we have recorded millions of tracks with thousands of the world's finest musicians, on hundreds of labels. When it comes to having been there and done that in the music business, we have the credentials.

But the music we've helped to make has always been released via our family of labels. One thing we haven't done before is offer music directly to our customers. Why not? Because - yes, and it took a musician to sing it - the times are changing. In fact, the times have changed. The ways in which music is made, bought, sold, shared and enjoyed have all changed completely over the past decade, and it's time for us to change too.

That's why we've created Universal Music online. We're putting you more directly in touch with the artists you love. We're in a position to do that. Because we find, nurture and manage the world's greatest musicians, we have access not only to the best music available, but also to the harder-to-find things that go with it – the limited editions, the exclusive merchandise, the stories behind the music.

All of this comes together at Universal Music to provide you with a richer, deeper, more authentic experience of music. Here you can browse and buy the latest and the rarest music and everything that goes with it, straight from the source.

In an age where you can buy an album in a supermarket with the groceries, and newspapers give CDs away, we want to put some of the magic and mystery back into music. However you feel about it, music is not a commodity like the milk or the daily news. Music comes from the heart. It's an expression of how people feel, created with skill, care, craft and love, using creative, technical, commercial know-how; and, above all, with inspiration, emotion and a desire to share what it is that makes us all tick.

This latest incarnation of Universal Music is new for us as well as you, and change is as constant in the world of music as it is online. We will grow and expand over the coming months, and it's important to us that we do so in line with what you want. This needs to work for you if it’s going to work for us. We have some great ideas of our own, but we want yours too. You, our visitors and customers, are the biggest part of Universal Music, and we’re actively inviting your feedback. Please let us know what you like, what you want more of, what you’re looking for that you can’t find and where you think we should go next.

Enjoy your visits, now and in the future. Once you’ve registered with us we'll be in touch regularly to let you know what we're doing, what's happening next and, above all, to keep you informed about the latest sounds and merchandise available at Universal Music.

Thanks for being involved. We’re looking forward to sharing our experience of music with you.
